dust bunnies

I made some dust bunnies (susuwatari's, soot sprites), those tiny fuzzy characters from the movies My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away. They are shy, slightly frightful creatures that live in abandoned buildings such as old houses.

They are really easy to make: just crochet a ball holding together one strand of normal and one strand of fuzzy black yarn. Add some (giggly) eyes and you're done!

Punk-topus

I made this "punk-topus" for a friend. I think he turned out pretty good. I made the octopus based on a basic pattern I found on the flickr-group Octopus Revolution.

To make it look like a punker, I added a piercing (a split ring) and a funky fuzzy mohawk. Therefore I used some fuzzy yarn and a big crochet hook (7 mm; otherwhise it's really hard to see the stitches).

Pattern for the mohawk:
Abbreviations:
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
dc: double crochet
trc: treble crochet
sl st: slip stitch
FO: fasten off

Row 1: ch (chain) 20
Row 2: dc in 3rd ch from hook; 2dc; 5 trc; 9 dc; 1sc
Row 3: working on the other side of the starting chain: 1sc, 9 dc, 5trc, 3dc, sl st, FO leaving a long tail to sew the mohawk on place.
